Del Favero was born in Sydney of Italian migrants from Cadore. He completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies in philosophy, visual arts and media arts at the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales and the University of Technology, Sydney.
Del Favero's work explores the social and personal interrelationship between human and 'natural' worlds,〔Ross Gibson. (2003) Reverberation: Remembrance and the Moving Image. Melbourne: Australian Centre for the Moving Image. p. 53.〕 utilizing experimental media to evoke the ways in which these underlying interrelationships endure beyond our attempts to deny them. His recent work is particularly interested in exploring the way one might live in a world increasingly haunted by the unacknowledged relationship between the human world and its habitat 〔Jill Bennett. (2007) T_Visionarium: A User's Guide. Karlsruhe/ZKM. p. 39.〕〔Sabine Sielke. (2008) "Surfacing Depths", in Un_Imaginable, ed. D.Del Favero, U. Frohne and P. Weibel, Ostfildern/Hatje Cantz. p. 19.〕〔Terry Smith. (2011) Transnational Virtuality: New Media Art, Contemporary Concerns" in Jaynie Anderson (ed.). The Cambridge Companion to Australian Art, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.〕 and how these hauntings reveal themselves as involuntary embodiments of the past in the present and the present in the future.〔Jill Bennett. (2004) Fantasmi. Sydney/Hannover: UNSW Press/Sprengel Museum. p. 80.〕〔Timothy Scott Barker. (2012) Time and the Digital. Hannover, New Hampshire: Dartmouth College Press. p. 101-105〕〔Ursula Frohne. (2013) ...Natürliches Artikulieren... in Transkription 2.4. (winter): 346-88.〕
His work has been extensively exhibited internationally in individual exhibitions for museums and galleries such as Sprengel Museum, Hannover, Münchner Stadtmuseum, Munich, ViaFarini, Milan and Neue Galerie, Graz and included in group exhibitions such as ''Kriegszustand'', Battle of the Nations War Memorial, Leipzig 1996, ''Cinemas du futur'', Euralille, 2004, ''Videonale'', Kunstmuseum Bonn, 2005, ''Artescienza: Spazio deformato'', Casa dell'Architettura, Rome, 2006, ''Biennial of Australian Art'', AGSA, 2008, ''International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville'', 2008, ''Imagining Media@ZKM'', Centre for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, 2009, ''International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam'', 2009, ''Sydney Film Festival'', 2011, and forthcoming in ''GLOBALE'', ZKM, 2015.
